Isn’t is ironical to note that the country which has given birth to great spiritual leaders and intellectuals, figures amongst the top ten corrupt nations of the world? India’s democracy is self – indulgent in every dimension.
The India of today is far from what our nationalist leaders had thought it would be or what Guru Rabindranath Tagore had dreamt about when he wrote “…. Into that heaven of freedom, let my country awaken…”when our constitution was amended, its makers envisioned the leaders of the future to be true patriots of the country but now those patriotic sentiments do not exist. Over the years, corruption as managed to spread it tentacles to the grass – root level. In the thirst for acquiring power, people start resort to any means. A common man confronts corruption in all public offices. It is clear that today, in India democracy very much means self – indulgence. The onus is on youth now. Let’s rise from our slumber and make a change.
